About the Woodburn Open House

Greenway and Woodburn will both be open from 9:00 to 11:30 for visiting. Allow 45 minutes to tour the house and grounds at each property.  Be aware that Woodburn is currently being renovated; please watch your step. Driving time between Greenway and Woodburn is about 10 minutes.

About Woodburn

National Register of Historic Places, Virginia Landmarks Register

The future president John Tyler purchased the tract on which Woodburn was erected in 1813 and the house was built for him shortly afterwards. In 1831 he sold it to his brother Wat H. Tyler. The house, described by John Tyler as a “decent and comfortable dwelling,” is a provincial version of the tripartite Palladian house, a form popular in the South during the late 18th and early 19th centuries.
